Generosity: A Giving Attitude That Touches All Aspects of Our Lives

A Public Talk by Khenpo Pema Wangdak

“To take delight in extending the hand and giving, as well as to induce others to generosity, are qualities well acquired indeed.”  –Nagarjuna, Buddhist philosopher, 2nd/3rd century, India

Khenpo Pema Wangdak, a Tibetan Buddhist lama and highly regarded teacher from New York City, returns to Friday Harbor for the fourth time to explain familiar concepts from a Buddhist perspective.  This year Khenpo Pema will examine the practice of generosity. We often think of generosity in material terms as the sharing of food, clothing, and possessions, but there is more to generosity than material gifts.  A giving attitude can touch every aspect of our lives, opening our hearts and turning every act into an opportunity for kindness.  Khenpo Pema will guide us to a deeper understanding of generosity and show how each of us can cultivate and endlessly expand this essential quality, which is the foundation of the Mahayana Buddhist path.

There is no charge; however donations are happily accepted and support Sakya Kachod Choling, a Tibetan Buddhist retreat center that has been on San Juan Island for 30 years.  Sakya Kachod Choling is owned and operated by Sakya Society, a 501(c)(3) Washington nonprofit corporation.  Khenpo Pema is on the Sakya Society Board of Directors.
