Anne Moore became the new Retreat Manager at Sakya Kachod Choling on October 1, 2016. She is also President of Sakya Society, the Washington nonprofit corporation that manages the retreat center for Her Eminence Sakya Jetsun Chimey Luding Rinpoche.
Anne has been studying in the Sakya tradition of Tibetan Buddhism since 2000, when she received the Lamdre teachings and initiations from His Holiness Sakya Gongma Trichen in Vancouver, Canada. She has attended two other Lamdre events over the years, in France in 2002 and in Walden, New York, in 2011. She lived in New York City and studied with Khenpo Pema Wangdak for about four years and has received teachings and initiations from other Sakya masters, including His Holiness the 42nd Kyabgon Sakya Gongma Trizin, Ratna Vajra Rinpoche; His Eminence Luding Khenchen Rinpoche; His Eminence Luding Khen Rinpoche; and Her Eminence Sakya Jetsun Chimey Luding Rinpoche.
Anne’s retreat experience in the Sakya tradition includes completion of the ngondro practices in four-month and five-month retreats in 2003 and 2004; completion of two Vajrayogini three-month retreats in 2006 and 2016; various other Vajrayogini retreats; and a number of shorter retreats such as one-week White Tara retreats. Most of the retreats were performed at Sakya Kachod Choling, and others occurred at Tsechen Kunchab Ling and in the Zuni Mountains of New Mexico at Ösel Khandro Duwi Ling.
Anne earned the B.A. degree, magna cum laude, with Honors in English, Phi Beta Kappa, from New York University and the M.A. degree from the College of William & Mary. She also received the J.D. degree, with distinction, from the University of Oklahoma and practiced law in Oklahoma for over 20 years as a litigation attorney with private firms and a public defender representing clients in court-appointed death penalty cases. She is a Board Member and Secretary of the Sachen Foundation.
